What - The first annual North Alabama Community of Character Summit (NACCS) presented by the Greater Huntsville Rotary Club
When - February 6, 2016 from 8 am – 12 pm
Where – Columbia High School
For Whom – Children and adults
Why - “Our Character Matters” and character is a crucial component of the community infrastructure
Our Vision: “North Alabama will be a nationally recognized community of character.”
Objectives: To educate and inform:
- Educate attendees in elements of character development;
- Build greater awareness of the Character Foundation of North Alabama
- Generate interest in serving
Competition and Awards: The NACCS will be preceded by K-12 art and essay “Character Word” competitions within competitive age groups, K-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-11, and 12. Each character word will have a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winner.
The 1st place winner in the K-8 division will receive a medal. The 1st place winner in the 9th grade -11th grade division will receive a bond, and the 1st place winner in the 12th grade character word division will receive a $1,000 scholarship. A total of four (4) $1,000 scholarships will be given.
Students should choose one word per entry to portray through art or literature. Please choose one of the following character words: Integrity, Compassion, Citizenship or Respect. Please see Competition Rules and Guidelines. The deadline to enter is Wednesday, Jan. 27 by 5:00 pm.
Program: The Summit will be a half-day forum with:
- Keynote speaker Judge Sybil Cleveland
- Breakout sessions designed to appeal to children and adults and children
- Awards Program for Character Word Competition winners
- FREE iPad and PS4 giveaway!
